I never wrote a movie review just because I watch movies for entertainment, but having seen so many posts on Facebook, about the movie "Tanu Weds Manu Returns", I thought of writing my views on the said movie.
There are many characters those are the threads of the movie carpet, here I want to talk about few of them:-
1. Tanu (Tanuja Trivedi):- She is the kind of vagabond woman who wants to live a free life before marriage and after marriage. She is liked by many men as a beloved, just because she is passionate and free spirited. This is one reason she is liked by Manu (Manoj Sharma), Raja Awasthi and Chintu ji (Arun Kumar Singh), also she is liked by Pappi Bhaiya. But all of them are afraid to keep her, because she is difficult to be kept in a confined surrounding, She just follows her heart, an emotional and a brainless character. That makes her life hell after being married for 4 years. She has no idea that there is a difference in being a "beloved" and being a "wife". Even after 4 years she does not know what is the meaning of the word "responsibility".
2. Datto (Kusum Sangwan):- She is focused and goal oriented girl, who is neither highly intelligent nor beautiful, but sensible enough to understand her surroundings. She gets involve in the affair and wants to grab the only opportunity of love, ignoring the clear tell-tale love story of Tanu and Manu. She just realizes the reality at the right time, and she gets rid of this chaos. She ignores in the beginning, that Manu Sharma is not divorced yet and only looking for a rebound relationship, which eventually lead a life of hell for her. My heart goes for this strong woman who becomes weak on the plight of love (pseudo love). She deserves a much better person than Manu Sharma. Someone who truly appreciate her capabilities.
3. Manu (Manoj Sharma):- A weak character of the movie, who is incapable of keeping his wife whom he loved and took for granted after a year of marriage. He is not clear in his decision to divorce his wife. He goes and asks his father, then he goes to the court, there also he is not clear, what actually he wants to do, the Lawyer suggests him to send just a notice, not a divorce notice. After sending the notice and the letter to Tanu he waits for a return call from her. He is so egoist that after receiving a divorce notice (false notice) he does not bother to talk to his wife. Then, he goes after Datto and says, he will prove to be a good husband, How????? :) Lastly, all his problems are either resolved by Raja Awasthi or Datto or Pappi Bhaiya. The kind of maturity expected from this character was missing. At one instance, Tanu asks him, Why did he change? She was like this always. He is that one-stupid-lucky-guy who gets the best piece of the cake without doing anything effectively.
4. Raja Awasthi:-A local less-educated "Thekedaar", who understands very basic principals of life, loved Tanu, and he still loves her, but on the other hand, he knows that Tanu loves Manu Sharma, and therefore he tries to help (both) to put back their life on track. In fact he scolds Manu Sharma at few instances to take the right step at the right time.
5. Chintu ji (Arun Kumar Singh):- This is the most lecherous character of the movie, but I appreciate the acting. It really made me feel like picking this person in public and thrash him to the ground so that he forgets that all women are his property. Such a shameless and characterless person he is.
